We’ve worked with Fiona McDonald Joyce, one of the UK’s leading nutritional chefs, to create nine recipes which allow those on low sugar, low fat diets to enjoy all the flavour and sweetness of classic tea time treats and puddings whilst still following the dietary guidelines for those with diabetes*.
The recipes favour whole grains to limit impact on blood sugar levels as well as providing increased fibre and nutrients. They also feature fruit for natural flavour and Total Sweet Xylitol in place of sugar for the same sweet taste without such a dramatic rise in blood sugar levels*.
Cinnamon makes a frequent appearance too, not just for its delicious flavour but also because it appears it may help to maintain blood sugar balance, making it a useful store cupboard staple when cooking with diabetes in mind.*
Please note that we don’t like to use the term ‘sugar free recipes’ because some of the ingredients used contain sugar, but non of the recipes have 'added' sugar as an ingredient in its own right.
