Total Tomato Sauce

It's not just sweet dishes that contain sugar, pick up a jar of tomato sauce and you might be surprised at how much sugar you'll find on the ingredients list. Try this simple homemade version for a much healthier option.
Ingredients:

1 tsp olive oil

1 garlic clove, chopped

400g canned tomatoes

2 tbsp red pesto

1/4 tsp mild chilli powder

1 tsp balsamic vinegar

1 tsp Total Sweet Xylitol

Salt and pepper to flavour

1 tbsp shredded fresh basil

2 tbsp freshly grated parmesan
Method:
- Heat the oil in a frying pan over low heat, add the garlic and saute for 30 seconds
- Stir in the tomatoes and break them up with a wooden spoon
- Add the remaining ingredients except for the basil and parmesan, season and simmer gently for 10 minutes
- Stir in the basil and parmesan, and cook just until the cheese has started to melt
- Serve with fish, white meat or pasta
- Can also be used as a pizza base topping
